Clutter Control and Organizing Solutions

There is nothing worse than a disorganized pantry inside your kitchen. Food gets shoved behind other food, and either you spend too much time looking for what you thought was there, or you spend more money replacing something that already is there.

The best way to combat that is to sort your food into categories, and then sort the categories into “most used” to “least used”. Some people hardly ever bake, but might have plenty of flour, sugar and baking powder on hand - this might be their least used category. However, some bake quite often which would go under most used.

The next thing you have to do is evaluate the space you have.

If you are using cabinets, I suggest taking a look at different cabinet organizational items. They have plate racks and shelves, door hanging shelves, etc. that can utilize the smaller space to its fullest. Work upwards by using shelves inside. Use the back part of the cabinets by installing sliding drawers, etc. There are plenty of methods to get a bit more use out of this smaller space.

If you are using a pantry or closet, make sure that you have plenty of shelves installed, and that they aren’t so far apart that there is loads of space between shelves not being used (unless you stack items, you don’t want a bunch of unused space). Also consider getting one of those over the door shelves for your pantry door to help store smaller items or cans.

Once you have your organizational methods in place, it is time to place your items back into the pantry or food cabinets. Be sure and group like items together or items that are usually used to prepare meals together. Nothing should be stored in your pantry that isn’t food related, so be sure and remove anything that isn’t. You can store an extra items that aren’t food related into a basket or plastic storage container for right now. Eventually you will find a home for these things.
