It Happened to Me Part 2
This is a continuation of my earlier post.
After we discovered the mess it took weeks to get everything dried up and see what was salvageable. We also learned in the process that we needed to move, and we were actually glad to.
Before we moved, I began buying up plastic storage containers of all sizes to place everything in. I threw out as many boxes as I could afford to throw out, and spent the rest of the time containerizing everything that used to be stored in boxes.
On moving day, more than half of our belongings were stored in plastic storage containers. It actually made moving easier, as everything stacked nicely in the truck, we just put a label on the outside of what was inside.
Many of those containers still exist today - even though their labels and contents have been changed quite frequently.
I always said it would never happen to me (a flood that ruined my belongings) - you know - that I’m safe mentality. Well, it did hit me, and thankfully not to a horrible degree, but a degree that made me feel helpless and full of anguish as my memories and other personal belongings had to be dumped into the trash.
Containerize now. Don’t wait. If it’s a cost thing - I won’t lie - those containers add up. Start buying them now. A few at a time. Look for deals or sales. And when you are ready to truly get organized, you will have everything there waiting and ready.
